Seth cannot concentrate on what the teacher is saying.
He is in some physics class because apparently you had to learn actual school work along with the hero stuff, that's a chore, especially when most of the people in the room defied the laws of physics, so really what sense does any of this class make? He chews on his eraser and hears vague things about velocity, momentum and what not.
He looks to his side and Durden is sitting there, he's only heard rumors about Akuji, the hero who was now the biggest name in their quaint little metropolis. He was also one of those heroes who decided to live and settle down with someone who was mortal, a feat the government chose to constantly praise as if there was something special in that. Wow, you must have lowered your standards to marry a woman who carries no single mutant gene in her! We are going to embrace this as our society as super powered mutants and normal people finally coming together! Oh, wait! Look away from all those other problems in the world just--
Nathaniel is different though, he knows that much. He's serious, he doesn't have any kind of presence whatsoever and he's way too quiet for his own good. Seth also notices he's been his assigned partner ever since Super Academy Pre School, he knows what everyone is thinking, everyone is thinking Durden and Adair can start a legacy together. Seth can pick up where Daniel had fallen, Nathaniel can just continue on the great Durden path, together they could really be something!
Seth chokes back a laughter, snorts out loud and he's sure Nathaniel heard it--what with the way Nathaniel raises his eye brow at him, as if he was scolding him. It was ridiculous.
He takes out a piece of paper and writes down quicky:
I wonder what would happen if we just moved spots away from each other.
Of course, Nathaniel being himself, was paying close and undivided attention to every word that spilled out of their teacher's mouth. He balanced the purple colored (for Thursdays, naturally) mechanical pencil between his thumb, index, and middle finger, taking a momentary pause from his current task of jotting down notes as the teacher themselves took a pause to jot down some elementary nonsense about equations relating to velocity and all that. It was the kind of thing he had expect to be done and over with more than a semester ago, but clearly, that was not (and most likely would never be) the case.
It's not a lie to say he was startled when he hears someone snort next to him, but it's not exactly the truth either. He was, after all, sitting next to Seth Adair, and some kind of noise here and there wasn't all that unexpected. Doubly so when he was almost completely certain that dear old Mr. Adair wasn't catching a single word of what their teacher was attempting to educate them on. He had spent enough time around the other boy to know that, he supposed. It seemed like no matter how many semesters passed and how many grades they moved up, through some coincidence (that most likely wasn't a coincidence at all), he always landed in the same room as him.
Bizarre, maybe. But not really.
He glances at him for a moment, cocking an eyebrow at him (more of an involuntary twitch that spanned less than three centimeters, in all honesty), before he realizes he was jotting something down on a piece of paper and directing it to him. Making sure nobody else was savvy, mostly out of his own paranoia, he proceeds to quickly jot down his own response.
May I inquire what caused you to contemplate that course of actions?
that should totally be his super name
